Larry 'Boss' Edington

Larry Joe "Boss" Edington, age 75 of Danville, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 7:10 PM at Presence USMC in Danville. He was born January 17, 1940 in Homer, the son of Harry and Thelma (Menges) Edington. Larry married Marjie Moss on August 30, 1959 at Walnut Corner Church. They shared 56 years of being each other's dance partner. She survives and will miss him tremendously. Also surviving are his sons, Eddie (Carol) Edington of Oakwood and Brad Edington of Hanna City, IL; grandchildren, Heather (Chase) Atwood, Josh (Brooke) Edington, Calie (Davy) Edington, Zachary Edington, and Emily Edington; great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Shelby, Sadiebug, Sidnee, Brody, Olivia, and Gavin; his brothers, Jim (Dianne) Edington and Tony (Melissa) Edington both of Bismarck; sisters, Sherrill (Ken) Martin of Danville and Judy Martin of Walnut Hill, CA; several nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law; and many more relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; John, Ron and Orville "Paul", and close friends, Benny and Kirby. Larry was a lifetime mechanic, who began his career working as a truck manager at Hires Trucking before becoming a service manager for International Harvester. Later, he started Danville Diesel and Electric, which he ran for a number of years before Lou Mervis realized Larry's mechanical gift and hired him to run the shop for Mervis Industries. Larry worked at Mervis for 40 years, retiring on his 40th anniversary in December of 2011. Even after his retirement, he could still be found with a wrench in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. Larry loved his donkeys, Jack and Lilly. He enjoyed farming and restoring Allis Chalmers tractors. He loved to go on road trips, whether it be hauling a tractor or just for fun. If Larry wasn't talking about tractors he was talking about his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were his world. Whatever they were involved in or liked, Larry did too. Larry and Marjie spent many years traveling to locations throughout the world. He always loved music and dancing and became an excellent line-dancer late in his life. Most notably, Larry enjoyed doing whatever he could just to help someone in need. Whether that be with the turn of a wrench or a quick one liner to get a laugh, Larry was always there. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Danville. Pastor Jim Russell will officiate. He will be laid to rest at Walnut Corner Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, January 18, 2016 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
