Larry Allen Hughes, 70, of Goreville, IL, formerly of Georgetown, passed away at 2:40am, Monday, December 21, 2015, at VA Medical Center, Marion, IL. He was born on October 29, 1945, in Danville, IL, the son of George Herbert and Frances Lucille {Galyen} Hughes. He was united in marriage to Judith Beals on October 8, 1966 in Salamanca, NY. She will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by: his children, Brad Hughes of Georgetown, Jodi (Kris) Key of Williamsport, IN, Todd (Sunny) Hughes of Georgetown, & Ami Sprague of Perrysville, IN; his grandchildren, Shelby (Clayton) Buchanan, Tayhlor Hughes, Dylan Hughes, Brylee Hughes, Dustin Hughes, Stephen Lorenzen, Legend Hughes, Hunter Sprague, & Houston Sprague; his brothers, Stephen (Donna) Hughes of Georgetown, Rodney (Sarah) Hughes of Georgetown, & Greg (Rhonda) Hughes of Bismarck; his sisters, Marilyn (Speed) Henschen of Goreville, Phyllis (Norman) Ross of Georgetown, Janice Jones of Flatwoods, KY, & Marsha (Ted) Byerly of Tilton; his sisters-in law, Carolyn Hughes of Goreville & Jacklyn Hoard of Salamanca, NY, & many extended family, as well as, a multitude of friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents and his brother, Dennis Hughes. Larry was a proud Veteran of the US Marine Corps. He served two tours in Vietnam from 1963 to 1969. He enjoyed going hunting, fishing, & watching football. Larry loved being with his family and cherished spending time with his grandchildren. He will never be forgotten by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at 10:00am, Monday, December 28, 2015, at First Church of Christ, 503 N. Main St, Georgetown, with Rod Overpeck officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 7:00pm, Sunday, December 27, 2015, at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown. He will be laid to rest in Forest Park Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the US Marine Corp and American Legion Post #51. Memorial donations may be given in his name to American Diabetes Association, Illinois Patriot Guard & America's Homeless Veterans.
