Lauretta Scotty (Vietti) Deknuydt, 98, of Westville passed from this life at 8:45 p.m. Saturday October 3, 2009 at Colonial Manor nursing home. Lauretta was born on June 16, 1911 in Parke County, IN, the daughter of Mario and Celina Mollett Vietti. She was married to Bearl Spicer on September 21, 1931, and they had one son, Bearl Spicer born on June 27, 1932. Mr. Spicer preceded her in death on July 9, 1940 and their son passed away April 13, 1963. Lauretta later married Norbert Nip Deknuydt on October 6, 1941. He passed away February 15, 1985 after 44 years of marriage as her husband, partner, and friend. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Georgetown and the Christian Builders Sunday School Class for over 60 years. She was a past member of Eastern Star #307, Asher Shrine, Chapter 65, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem of Danville. She was a Homemaker and enjoyed baking for all her friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed Chicago Cubs ball games, a good game of euchre, and traveling. Lauretta was preceded in death by her husbands, son, parents, and two brothers and sisters. She is survived by a grandson, Bearl Spicer Jr., several nieces and nephews, and too many friends to list one by one. Scotty will be dearly missed and will forever live in the hearts of those who loved her. She had a special way of making each person she came in contact with feeling very special, and she always lived life to the fullest. May she rest in peace knowing she will never be forgotten. A celebration of Scottys life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday October 6, 2009 at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home. Steve Rutter will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. one hour prior to the services on Tuesday. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
