CHAMPAIGN- Lana (Johnson) Nickel died on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. Lana had a life well-lived. She was born on April 4, 1944 in Minden, Nebraska to Archie and Lucille Johnson. She graduated from Minden High School in 1962. Lana married her love, Robert Nickel in 1963. Together, they made a life full of special memories with their six children and eleven grandchildren. Prior to retirement, Lana worked for Dr. Alex Sorkin and Associates and later for Christie Clinic. Lana enjoyed gardening, jogging, spending time with her grandchildren, traveling with her husband and cheering for the Chicago Cubs. Lana was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be missed dearly. Survivors include her husband, Robert Nickel of Champaign, Illinois; daughter Carla Nickel and granddaughter, Beth of Villa Park, Illinois; daughter Catherine Pilkington and grandson Zachary and granddaughter Courtney of Stillwater, Oklahoma; daughter Patty (Dan) Kloss and granddaughters Amanda, Jessica and Allison of Fishers, Indiana; daughter Lisa (Mark) Krause, grandson Josh and granddaughter Ashley of Villa Park, Illinois; son Tim (Kristie) Nickel and grandson Sam of Bloomington, Illinois; and daughter Megan (Ryan) Burch and granddaughters Erin and Ava of Littleton, Colorado. She is also survived by her sister Pam (Chip) Munk; and brothers, Mark (Roxie) Johnson and Brian (Laurie) Johnson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lucille Johnson; father, Archie Johnson; and sister, Joni Johnson. Cremation rights have been accorded by Sunset Funeral Home, 710 N. Neil St., Champaign, Illinois. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 5-7 pm at Sunset Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Matthews Parish at 1303 Lincolnshire Drive in Champaign, Illinois with Father Robert Rayson officiating.
