Lois Arlene Olmstead, 90, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at her home in Danville. She was born on March 18, 1931 the daughter of Herman and Rosa (Gephart) Bloemker in Chicago, IL. She married Jack Olmstead on August 28, 1949.

Arlene is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who passed away in 2012; as well as one brother, Archie Bloemker.

Arlene leaves behind her three sons, James (Sharon) Olmstead of Lowell, Arkansas, John (Ruby) Olmstead of Lincoln, Illinois, and Philip (Janet) Olmstead of Danville, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Jared (Andrea) Olmstead, Jaclyn (Eric) Keeter, Keri (Derek) Hunter, Angela (Casey) Anderson, Ashley Redding, Tera (Michael) Schwartz, Jeffrey Olmstead, Thaddaeus Olmstead, and Corey Olmstead; twenty-one great grandchildren, Travis, Jaden, Jackson, Kylie, Preston, Lawson, Ava, Elliott, Payton, Makayla, Ashton, Asia, Kalina, Keilin, Livingston, Bessie, Graham, Aaron, Lara, Akiana, and Caleb; her siblings, Zelma Hasselbring of Joliet, Illinois, Norman (Fern) Bloemker of Dallas, Georgia, and Ralph (Henrietta) Bloemker of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; and special friend Janice Smoot.

Arlene graduated from Trapp Prairie Grade School in 1944 and Effingham High School in 1948. She attended Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, Illinois. Arlene worked at Walgreen Accounting and retired in 1983. She was a member of the Second Church of Christ, where she served as Church Clerk for over 50 years. She taught the 3rd and 4th grade Sunday School Class for 30 years. In 1990 she was awarded the "Faithful Teacher" award at the North American Christian Convention. Arlene was well known for her counted cross-stitch artistry.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the Second Church of Christ, 3350 E Voorhees St, Danville, IL 61834. Officiating will be Dr. Dale DeNeal. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held just prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Second Church of Christ in Danville.
