Kirt L. Abernathey

Kirt Leslie Abernathey, 52, of Danville, Il. Passed away on Friday, September 27, 2019, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Kirt was born on June 22, 1967, in Danville, IL to Sam and Joann (Baker Rokosch) Abernathey. He attended Rossville-Alvin grade and high school.

He worked at the Colonial Parkway and Beef House restaurants before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served in the first deployment of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier out of Norfolk, Virginia. Kirt loved to watch sports on T.V. He was an avid Jeff Gordon fan until his retirement. He loved to fish, play pool, play cards and visit with his family and friends. He really enjoyed eating steak and shrimp.

Kirt leaves behind his two half-brothers, Troy Abernathey and John Rokosch.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; Bessie Abernathey and Leon and Mary Baker.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, IL. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 have been entrusted with arrangement. Officiating will be Pastor Jay Sorrell.
