Cayuga, Ind. -- (Retired) SSGT. Kevin L. Kennedy, 52, of Cayuga, passed away at 10:31 p.m. EDT Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born January 10, 1959 in Danville, Illinois the son of Bartlette "Bobbie" Harvey Kennedy and Milton Kennedy. He married Chong Cha Kwon on March 23, 1979 in Seoul Korea. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Michelle(Richard)Hawn of Covington, Indiana; Gerri Kennedy of Rapid City, South Dakota; twins, David and Shannon Kennedy of Cayuga, Indiana; one grandson, Tanner Hawn; mother, Bobbie Kennedy of Cayuga, Indiana; father, Milton Kennedy of Burlington, Iowa; three sisters, Richelle(John)Simpson of New Zealand; Theresa(Chad)Reckling of Burlington, Iowa; Catherine Estes of Terre Haute, Indiana; one brother, John(Lori)Kennedy of Bourbonnais, Illinois; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. SSGT. Kennedy enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 15, 1978 and retired on April 30, 1998. Upon completion of technical training at Chanute AFB, Illinois, he was assigned as a Fuels Specialist to the 51st Supply Squadron, Osan AB, Republic of Korea. After a two year assignment, he was transferred to the 28th Supply Squadron, Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. Some of his many decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal, The Air Force Achievement Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Two Oak Leaf Clusters and V for Valor, The Air Force Good Conduct Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, And the National Defense Service Medal. SSGT Kennedy was a 1977 graduate of Ridge Farm High School. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling (Men's League in Covington), Chicago Cubs baseball and watching his children participating in sporting events. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. EDT Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Cayuga Christian Church, 406 South Logan Street; Officiating: Evan Stone; Burial: Danville National Cemetery in Danville, Illinois with military rites by the Cayuga American Legion Post #263; Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. EDT Monday, October 31, 2011 at the Cayuga Christian Church. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana in charge of arrangements.
