Kerry Newman Hamburg, 70, of Danville, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2007 at Provena Covenant Hospital in Champaign. Kerry was born on May 29, 1937 in Elkville, Illinois, the son of Dr. Newman J. and Florence (Poole) Hamburg. He married Mary Tootsie Saladino Hamburg on August 27, 1960 at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Danville. She survives. He is also survived by his two sons- Kevin (Rita) Hamburg of Pearland, Texas and Kelly (Leslie) Hamburg of Humble, Texas; one daughter- Lori Hamburg of Raleigh, North Carolina; one sister- Sonya Linne of Oakwood; three grandchildren- Adyson and Kaley Hamburg both of Pearland, Texas and Ryne Hamburg of Humble, Texas; two cousins- Dawn (Bill) Naas of Syracuse, New York and Bonnie (Charlie) Fisher of Watertown, New York; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister- Jackie Corbett. Kerry graduated from Danville High School in 1955. After high school he graduated from Millikin University in 1960. He later graduated from University of Illinois in 1972 with his Masters Degree in History. Kerry served in the Naval Reserve from 1953 to 1960. From 1960 to 1962, he was a school teacher at Brownville High School in Dexter, New York. He moved back to Danville, in 1962 and became a 8th grade Social Studies teacher at North Ridge Middle School until he retired in 1992. Kerry loved to go walking every day. He enjoyed helping Tootsie go antiquing and setting up shows. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and was a cross country runner at Danville High School and Millikin University. Kerry loved his family and enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren in Texas and North Carolina. He was an avid University of Illinois sports fan and Chicago Bears fan. A Celebration of the Life of Kerry Newman Hamburg will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Father Greg Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 " 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A rosary service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Pauls Catholic Church or to Schlarman High School.
