Newport, Ind. - Kenneth W. Collins, 71, of Newport, passed away at 4:49 p.m. EST Monday, February 3, 2014 at his residence. He was born August 15, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of the late John L. and Elsie F. Hatch Collins. He married Jeanne Miller on April 20, 1968 in Danville, Illinois. She survives. Other survivors include two son's, Kevin(Cindy)Collins of Newport, Indiana and Kirby(Erin)Collins of Dana, Indiana; three granddaughters, Kara Collins; Ashley Collins and Amanda(John)Strader; three great grandchildren, Amari Collins; Graison Collins and Kayleigh Strader; mother-in-law, Bonnie Jean Miller of Newport, Indiana; several sister and brother-in-laws and cousins. Kenneth was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Bill Miller. Kenneth worked for 38 years as a machine operator at TeePak in Danville, Illinois, retiring in 2003. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the United States Army. Kenneth was a 1961 graduate of Newport High School. His memberships included the Newport United Methodist Church and the Newport American Legion Post #184 where he served as past commander and adjutant. Kenneth enjoyed mowing, riding his bicycle, being outdoors, Indiana University basketball, Cubs baseball and Indianapolis Colts football. Funeral services: 11 a.m. EST Saturday, February 8, 2014 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Jon Overbey; Burial with military honors will be at Thomas Cemetery, Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EST Friday, February 7, 2014 at the funeral home.
