Kenneth Thomas

Kenneth Thomas, a devoted family man and dedicated professional, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, in Culver, Indiana, with his family by his side. Born on July 3, 1932, in Clinton, Indiana, he was the son of John and Eliza (Vickery) Thomas. He graduated from Tangier High School in 1951. He then embarked on what became his life journey.

Kenneth served in the United States Army in the Big Red One unit. He spent his service time during the Korean War in Germany, serving as the General’s driver, ensuring his safety.

Kenneth married Nancy (McLain) Thomas, the love of his life, on February 11, 1956. They spent 69 years dedicating their lives to one another and their family.

Kenneth’s working career began as a Section Lineman for the Nickle Plate Railroad which merged and became Norfolk and Western Railroad. They eventually merged again becoming the Norfolk Southern Railway Corporation, from which he eventually retired. He took great pride in providing the safety and functionality of the railways that connected so many lives across our country. This exemplified his strong work ethic and commitment to service. His dedication extended beyond his professional life.

Outside of work, Kenneth's greatest passion was taking trips with his wife on their motorcycle. Over the years, they enjoyed riding both Honda’s and Harley’s but his favorite by far, was their trips across country on the Harley Davidson motorcycle. In his younger years he occasionally enjoyed deer hunting, working on Heath Kit projects, and archery. These hobbies not only provided him much joy but also allowed him to share special moments with friends and family.

Kenneth is survived by his two sons, Douglas (Sandy) Thomas of Culver, Indiana, and Jeffrey (Phyllis) Thomas of Bass Lake, Indiana. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, granddaughter, Dana Thomas of Culver, Indiana, and grandson, Stuart Thomas of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy (McLain) Thomas, who was a source of love and support throughout their life together. Kenneth was also preceded in death by his parents, John and Eliza (Vickery) Thomas, his sister Edna Grace Pugh Purcell, his brother John Thomas, Jr. and several other family members.
