M.Sgt. Kenneth M. Witherspoon, USAF retired, 66, of Ridge Farm, passed away at 1:30am, Friday, October 7, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Danville, IL, on January 22, 1950, the son of Roy and Audrey {Miller} Witherspoon. He was united in marriage to Kathleen McGovern on April 8, 1972 in London England. She will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by: his mother, Audrey Witherspoon of Georgetown, Three daughters; Fabienne Witherspoon of Advance, IN, Nowell (John) Buchanan of Georgetown and Jaime Witherspoon of Ridge Farm. One brother Melvin Donald (Lisa) Witherspoon of Hartselle, AL, four sisters; Audrey Allison, Jacquita Craft, Cindy Allison and Virginia Mayo all of Georgetown. Also his Grandchildren; Brandon Karaszkiewicz, Taylor Smith, Morgan Maus Tyler Smith, Gabriel Maus, Jackson Wood, Noah Witherspoon and Beau Atwood. one Great-Grandchild; Noriselah Maus. He was preceded in death by his Father Roy, two brothers; Gorman "Ronnie" and Michael David and one sister; Gloria Fay Collins. Ken was a proud veteran of the Air Force retiring after 24 years, also retired from Thyssen Krupp as a Safety Operations Manager. Ken was a member of the NRA and Otto Newlin Shooting Range. Ken enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading and loved tinkering in his garage with all his tools. Also loved traveling with his wife Kathleen. He enjoyed his family pets as well. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. A celebration of Kenneth's life will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E West ST, Georgetown, with Jean Rumple officiating. Visitation will be 9:00am to Noon on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Danville National Cemetery, Danville, with Military Rites conducted by the American Legion Dornblasers Post #203. Memorial donations may be given in Kenneth's name to Vermilion County Animal Shelter or CARA.
