Kenneth J. Granitz
A very fine and thoughtful man passed away July 9, 2023 it gives us pause to celebrate a well-lived life. Kenneth Joseph Granitz, 92 years of age, passed peacefully on Sunday evening with his family by his side.
Ken was born on February 19, 1931, the only child of Esther (Lange) and Joseph Granitz in Danville, Il. He married Patricia "Pat" Storey on September 12, 1970 in Danville and was married for 43 years until she preceded him in death on November 12, 2013.
Ken is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ken grew up in Danville, enjoying sports, particularly football, and singing in the choir. Ken first attended Wabash College and left to serve his country in the United States Army. He was stationed in Japan during the Korean War and enrolled in Eureka College after being honorably discharged. Ken returned to Danville with chemistry and engineering skills and accepted a position with Bohn Aluminum and retired after 34 years of employment.
Ken was truly a people person. Ken and Pat were enthusiastic season ticket holders of Illinois football and basketball games for many years. They were a fun-loving couple who enjoyed life and were dedicated to the life of their church and supporting others.
Ken was a Lifetime Member of Central Christian Church and an "elder emeritus". He was also active in the Further Light Masonic Lodge #1130, Danville Consistory, American Legion Post 210, a member of the Lamba Chi Alpha Fraternity. He served as a High School Football and Softball Official for many years and active in the "Faith In Action" Program.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 17, 2023 at Central Christian Church Danville, 1101 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61832. Reverend Dr. Adam Harmon will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by Westville American Legion Post 51. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 3-5:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Masonic Rites will be accorded at 5:00 PM on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in Kens memory to the Central Christian Church Foundation, Inc.
