Kenneth George Hughes

Cayuga, Ind. - Kenneth George Hughes, 94, of Cayuga, passed away at 4:10 p.m. EDT Thursday, August 26, 2021 at The Waters of Covington.

He was born October 19, 1926 in Pimento, Indiana the son of the late George and Melissa (Loving) Hughes.

Their family moved to Cayuga where George and Melissa Hughes bought the property where Kenneth lived. Kenneth later married Erema Mae Canaday and they purchased the house from his parents. Kenneth and Erema had three children: Karl, Roger and Steve Hughes, and raised their children at this residence. Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, gardening, welding, wood working and anything that dealt with the outdoors. He loved having family and friends over anytime. He would enjoy his nephew, Bill Spencer coming over and helping work on projects, cutting trees and splitting logs for his wood stove, and a casual conversation about anything they felt like talking about. Kenneth lived a good life and had done anything he desired. He worked at several jobs throughout his life: The Lily Tulip Cup Corporation, C&EI Railroad, Jenkins Concrete, Allis Chalmers, ALCOA Aluminum, Self Carpenter, Liberty Powder, E-I Dupont, Bohn Aluminum, ESCO Corporation, TeePak, and last at ESCO Corporation again. Kenneth was a 1944 graduate of Cayuga High School and attended the Cayuga Church of The Nazarene.

Survivors include his sons: Karl (Sharon) Hughes of Plano, Texas; Roger Hughes of Cayuga, Indiana and Steve (Nancy) Hughes of Covington, Indiana; grandchildren: Aron Hughes; Nicholas (Kendall) Hughes; Laura Hughes Moske; Kyle (Kaitlan) Hughes; Jessica Hughes; Brandon and Dustin Hughes; Kimberly (Shawn) Johnson and Bethany (Cole) Dudley; great-grandchildren: Sydney and Jakob Moske; Mason Hughes; Maya and Kara Clemence; two sisters: Norah Naylor of Cayuga, Indiana and Izetta Barker of St. Paul, Minnesota, and one brother: Joseph Hughes of Florida.

Kenneth was preceded in death by four sisters: Lucy Reed; Drusilla Spencer; LaDonna Switzer and Loretta Canaday, and two brothers: Everett and Carlous Hughes.

Funeral service: 1 p.m. EDT Monday, August 30, 2021 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor Ken Jones; Burial: Thomas Cemetery, Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 11 a.m. EDT until time of services at the funeral home.
