L. Kenneth Dancy, 78, of Bismarck, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2007 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center. Kenneth was born on April 16, 1929 in Weldon, Illinois, the son of Okel and Alta (Johnson) Dancy. He married Geneva Garmon on May 29, 1953 in Danville. She survives. He is also survived by his brother- Ovilee Dancy; three sisters- Jean Smith of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Betty Elkin of Alvin, Illinois and Karen Slater of Helena, Montana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son- Michael Arlin Dancy, one brother- Kimmel Dancy and two sisters- Ina Boen and Wilma Desmond. Kenneth was a member of the First Church of Christ in Bismarck and had been attending the Walnut Corner Church of Christ. He served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War. Kenneth lived his whole adult life in the Bismarck community. He worked as the Newell Township Highway Commissioner for several years, until he retired in 1993. He was a past member of Anchor Lodge #980, Ansar Temple of Springfield, Scottish Rites of Danville, Eastern Illinois Shrine Club, GAO Grotto, American Legion Post #210, Danville Elks Lodge #332, and the Township Officials of Illinois. Kenneth had served on the Bismarck High School School Board and was past president of the Bismarck Lions Club. He had also served on the Bismarck Volunteer Fire Board for 15 years Bismarck Ambulance Board as President and the Bismarck Fair Association as ticket chairman. Kenneth loved working in the yard, gardening, playing cards, fishing and spending his winters in Florida. A Celebration of the Life of L. Kenneth Dancy will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastors Sam Eddy and Ken Fetters officiating . Visitation will be from 5:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Masonic service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Gundy Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #210 at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to Walnut Corner Church of Christ.
