Covington, IN - Kenneth C. Ossie Osgood, 84, of Covington, died at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at St. Vincent Hospital in Williamsport, IN. Born December 9, 1924, in Danville, VT., he was the son of Ralph and Helen Chalmers Osgood. His schooling was at Danville (Vt.) High School and Philips Academy. On May 19, 1945, in Tucumcari, N.M., he married Louise Moore. She survives along with three sons: Rodger (Sharon) of Orlando, FL., Russell (Connie) and Randall (Becky) of Danville; grandchildren, Chris Osgood in Orlando, Florida, Sue (Robert) Sadler of Danville, Cindy Osgood of Indianapolis, Jacob Osgood of Danville and Jennifer Merrick of Chicago; and two great-granddaughters: Erica and Alexis Sadler of Danville. He was preceded by his parents and a brother. He served in WWII (1942-1946) and in Viet Nam (1968-1969), earning the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. He served a total of 30 years in the Air Force on active and reserve duties. He was a diesel locomotive electrician, retiring after 30 years with area railroads. He was a long-time member of Second Church of Christ in Danville. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 288 in Veedersburg and was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association. He was steadfast in his duties with the Legions Veterans Funeral Detail. His hobbies were woodworking, traveling, gardening and meeting his buddies for coffee. His family was his pride and joy. A celebration of the life of Kenneth Osgood will be held on Monday, March 2, 2009, at 10 a.m. CST, at Sunset Funeral Home, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Drew Mentzer will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2009, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. CST at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Second Church of Christ Building Fund.
