Covington, Ind. - Kennard W. Drake, 87, of Covington, passed away at 7:04 p.m. EDT Sunday, September 28, 2014 at his residence. Kennard was born July 2, 1927 in Danville, Illinois the son of the late William and Kate L. Dickason Drake. He married Martha Keller on June 6, 1948 in West Lebanon, Indiana. She survives. Other survivors include his two daughters, Denise(Robert)Ebert, Jr. of Danville, Illinois and Lynn(Robert)Stein of Covington, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Travis(Cari)Wooster; Tara(Wesley)Pendleton; Amy Long; Aaron(Diana)Stein; Ashley(Stacey)Stein; Andrea(Stuart)Williams; Bryan Stein and David Stein; ten great grandchildren and his special friends at Benjamin's Restaurant. Kennard was preceded in death by his infant sister, Imogene Drake and great granddaughter, Maeva Stein. Kennard first worked at C.E.I. railroad, then Olins Corporation and later at the V.A. Illiana Health Care System as a electrician, retiring in 1987. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving with the SeaBees of the United States Navy. While in the navy, Kennard was stationed in Guam. He was a 1945 graduate of Perrysville High School. His memberships included the Sterling Christian Church in Veedersburg, Indiana and the Perrysville American Legion Post #350. He loved Colts football and fishing. Kennard enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He especially loved the Lord, his family and country. Kennard loved to share his faith with other people. Funeral services: 3 p.m. EDT Thursday, October 2, 2014 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Gary Johnson; Burial: Lower Mound Cemetery north of Perrysville, Indiana with military rites by the Perrysville American Legion Post #350; Visitation: 1 p.m. EDT Thursday, October 2, 2014 until time of services at the funeral home.
