Kathryn R. Banta 79, of Ridge Farm, passed away at 10:58am, Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Provena USMC, Danville. She was born on April 30, 1933, the daughter of Kenneth and Celma {Swaim} Van Allen, both deceased. She was united in marriage to Robert Terry' Banta on February 17, 1963. He will miss her dearly. Others who will miss her include: her daughter, Kathy Banta of Chicago, IL; her brother, Donald (Sharon) Van Allen of Bismarck; her brother-in-law, Tom Wiener of South Bend, IN; her sister-in-law, Barbara (Bob) Zamen of Austin, TX; and her nephews, Thomas Wiener of South Bend, IN, Philp Van Allen of Evansville, In, Bob Zamen of Austin, TX, & Steven Zamen of Austin, TX. She was preceded in death by her sister, Gae Wiener. Kathryn was a graduate of Lakeview College of Nursing and worked as an Registered Nurse for Lakeview Hospital and the Danville Veteran's Administration. She was active in the County & State Boards of Health for 24 years and received the Illinois Public Health Association's Everett L. Hageman Volunteerism Award. She enjoyed antiques, golfing, as well as, cooking & gardening. She also avidly watched the Fighting Illini and cheered them whether they won or lost. A celebration of Kathryn's life will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown, with Patty Wise officiating. Visitation will be 9:30am-11:00am, Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery, Ridge Farm. Memorial donations may be given in her name to: American Cancer Society, 2509 S Neil St, Ste#1, Champaign, IL 61820, or Lakeview College of Nursing, Danville.
