Cates, Ind. - Kathleen A. "Kass" Bowling, 90, of Cates, passed away at 4:55 p.m. EDT Saturday, September 1, 2012 at The Waters of Covington in Covington, Indiana. She was born January 10, 1922 in Cates, the daughter of the late David E. and Lily Stoup Campbell. She married Marvin "Wick" Bowling on March 27, 1939 in Lawrence, Indiana. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1996. Survivors include one daughter, Glenda(Raymond)Richardson of Kingman, Indiana; two sons, Larry "Mike" Bowling of Russiaville, Indiana and Jackie(Mary)Bowling of Covington, Indiana; nine grandchilden; nineteen great grandchilden; daughter-in-law, Donna Bowling of Lafayette, Indiana and one sister, Evelyn Bruno of Atlantis, Florida She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Virgie Campbell; son, Marvin Wayne Bowling; infant brother, George Marvin; sister, Novella Clodfelder and step brother, Jim Murray. Kass started driving a school bus as a relief driver for her husband in 1953. She continued driving for the Cates School and later for the Covington School Corporation until her retirement in 1991. In 1990 she received the Richard E. Pea Award for being the top school bus driver in the state of Indiana. After retiring, Kass enjoyed writing poetry, gardening and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Cates Community Church since childhood and was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Funeral services: 2 p.m. EDT Thursday, September 6, 2012 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Kenneth Majors; Burial: Coal Creek Cemetery south of Covington, Indiana; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the funeral home.
