Katherine "Jean" Howard

Covington, Ind. -- Katherine "Jean" Howard, 86, of Covington, passed away at 8:25 p.m. EDT Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born June 18, 1925 in Gessie, Indiana, the daughter of the late Albert and Marvel Hay Hines. She married Joseph H. Howard on June 19, 1943 in Perrysville, Indiana. He preceded her in death on December 2, 2009. Survivors include her children, Theresa(Jay)Frederickson of Newport, Oregon; Trudy Howard of Covington, Indiana and Gary(Carol)Howard of Kingman, Indiana; four granddaughters; Jana Grimes, Ruth Ellen Wilbanks, Samantha Howard and Katie McFadden; three great grandchildren and one brother, Larry(Carole)Hines of Covington, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her son, Joe Howard, Jr.; two sisters, Ima Lee Gebbink; Doris Junkin and four infant sisters. Jean retired in 1990 from the VA Illiana Health Care System surgical support unit. She was a member of the Second Church of Christ in Danville, Illinois. Jean graduated from Perrysville High School in 1943. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, traveling and spending time with her many friends and family. Funeral services: Noon EDT Monday, July 18, 2011 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Drew Mentzer; Burial: Danville National Cemetery in Danville, Illinois; Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. EDT Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the funeral home.
