Katharine 'Katie' Smith

Katharine Katie J. Smith, 71, of Danville, passed away at 6:40 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2010 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Katie was born on November 13, 1938 in Danville, the daughter of Charles A. and Helen (Quear) Wherry. She is survived by her daughter- Tina R. W. (Marvin) Fitzwater of Plainfield, Illinois; and a sister- Margaret A. (Keith) Brown of Catlin, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents. Katie graduated from Catlin High School. She was a member of the Catlin Church of Christ and the Catlin Historical Society. She previously worked in the office at the Commercial-News and after her daughter was born she became a homemaker. Katie enjoyed spending time with her daughter and sister. She also enjoyed reading books, going to movies, going out to eat and watching shows at the Little Opry in Nashville, Indiana. Private family service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Burial will be held at Oakridge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
