Karon Huckaby

Karon R. Huckaby, 74, a resident of Hawthorne Inn and formerly of Fithian, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Hawthorne Inn of Danville, Illinois.

She was born on February 20, 1950, in Champaign, Illinois, daughter of the late Roy and Fauniel (Ricketts) Thurman.

Karon married William “Bill” Huckaby on November 8, 1969, in Champaign, Illinois, and he preceded her in death in June of 2013.

Survivors include her daughter: Christine (Donald) Hargrove; her grandchildren: Breanna Hargrove and Brittany (Alan) Hargrove; one great-grandchild: Jackson Harding; her brothers: Gary, Roy (Tina) and Dan (Kerri) Thurman; her brother-in-law: Don Huckaby; along with several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, Karon was preceded in death by one brother: Robert “Bobby” Thurman.

Karen loved the outdoors and could often be found tending to her garden. She took pride in her yard and garden and enjoyed making floral arrangements. Most of all, Karon enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. 

A Celebration of Life for Karon will be held at 1PM on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Sunset Funeral Homes Oakwood Chapel 105 E South Main Street in Oakwood, Illinois. Pastor Todd Creason will officiate. Burial will follow at Stearns Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12PM – 1PM on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the funeral home in Oakwood.
