Karl H.R. Ohrt, 71, of Danville passed away on November 4, 2008 at Provena Covenant Care in Champaign. Karl was born December 1, 1936 in Chicago son of Rudolf and Esther Florence Sutton Ohrt. He married Barb A. Smock on April 15, 1987 in Markham, Illinois. She survives. Survivors include: Bryan (Cam) Ohrt, Jennifer Frassrand, Ronald (Konnie) Ohrt, and Jaquie Ohrt; step-children: Robin (Phil) Ferguson, Misty VanDerlinde, and Keith (Janet) Jarosz; sister: Thelma (Ray) Weeks; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; two nieces Carrie and Gwen, many cousins and several special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Karl graduated High School and served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. He worked as a police sargeant in Harvey, Illinois for 26 years until retiring in 1987. After retirement he volunteered at the Danville VA Hospital and was past Commander of American Legion Post #210 and was founder of the Freedom Riders in Danville. Karl was a life member of NRA, Pheasants Forever, and North American Bass. A Celebration of Karls Life will be held at noon, Friday, November 7, 2008 at Danville National Cemetery with Pastor Kent Tibben officiating, Military Honors will be performed by the American Legion Post #210. Visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 am Friday at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #210.
