Karen Tuggle

Karen Tuggle, of Danville, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2008 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. Karen was born on December 29, 1949 in Paris, Illinois, the daughter of James and Barbara (Dickson) Dean. She married William Andy Tuggle on June 4, 1972 at the Holiday Hills Free Methodist Church in Danville. He survives. She is also survived by her mother- Barbara (Duane) Frye of Summerfield, Florida; two sons- Ryan Tuggle of Denver, Colorado and Kyle Tuggle of Chicago, Illinois; one brother- John Dean of Denver, Colorado; one sister- Deb Gustafson of Phoenix, Arizona; three nieces- Stacy (Jason) Rini of San Diego, California, Kimberly (Adam) Dunlap of Doylestown, Pennsylvania and Vanessa Dean of New York, New York; one nephew- James Dean of Denver, Colorado; and two great-nephews- Bryson and Carter Rini of San Diego, California. She was preceded in death by her father-James Dean. Karen graduated from Carmi High School. After high school she attended Illinois State University, where she graduated with her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. She later completed her Masters Degree in Elementary Education at Eastern Illinois University. She worked for 30 years as an elementary school teacher for District #118. She taught 1st thru 5th grades at Northeast, Douglas and Cannon Schools, she retired from teaching in May of 2008. She was also a member of Phi Delta Kappa, National Education Association for Teachers and Illinois Education Association for Teachers. Karen enjoyed sewing, photography, animals, playing cards, traveling, reading and taking care of her houseplants. Karen loved children, teaching and enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her. Per Karens wishes she will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
