Karen Sue (Cunningham) Wynn, 82, passed away at her home at The Glenwood Assisted Living in Mahomet, IL on Friday, January 6, 2023.
Visitation will be at First Church of the Nazarene at 2403 W. Kirby Ave. in Champaign on Friday, January 13, 2023, at 5:00-6:00 with a memorial celebration following immediately at 6:00.
Karen, the youngest of five siblings, was born August 10, 1940, in Tilton, IL to Roy and Mildred (Sullivan) Cunningham. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Wynn who survives, and they celebrated 65 years of marriage on August 10th of 2022.
Karen was the loving bio-mom to daughter, Koleen (Phil) Barnell of rural Seymour, IL, son, Kim (Nancy) Wynn of rural Morris, IL and son, Adrian (Julie) Wynn of Salem, VA as well as "Mom" to daughter, Norma Gomez of Arlington, TX. She and her husband also helped raise 63 foster children. She was Grandma to 10 grandchildren; Brittney Wynn (Robert) Kaluzny, Kyle (Jaimie) Wynn, Shelby Wynn, Keturie Barnell (Tim) Hehn, Morgan Barnell, Kilmeny Barnell (Josh) Clark, Caleb Barnell, Graeme Barnell, Jennifer Wynn, and Camren (Mia) Wynn as well as 15 great-grands.
An avid artist, florist, seamstress, and crafter, she was a lover of all things Christmas and a voracious reader. But most of all, Karen was a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ as was evidenced by her loving spirit and generous nature. She had been a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene and loved her "church family".
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and siblings & in-laws; sister, Margery (Bill) Downey; brother, Adrian Dean (Ruth) Cunningham, brother, Brad (Ann) Cunningham, and brother, Donald Cunningham. Dons wife, Esther, survives.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made at the memorial service and will be designated for donation to the Work and Witness Missions of the Church of the Nazarene. Those funds go to send volunteers to build childrens homes, senior living, work opportunities and churches in foreign countries as well as in underserved populations in the US. Donations may also be sent for this purpose to the church at the above address.
Her family would like to especially thank the attentive, hardworking, and loving staff at The Glenwood as well as the staff of Transitions Hospice.
