Junior JR H. Eck, 83, of Danville, passed away at 12:34am on Friday, May 6, 2011 at Provena USMC in Danville. He was born on May 16, 1927, in Williamsport, Penn, the son of Mr. David and Mrs. Helen (Eck) Gardner. Both are deceased. He married Sally Hoskins and were married for 55 years. Junior is survived and will be missed by his wife, Sally, and their three children, Helen (Harold) Hegg of Covington, IN, Rick (Renate) Eck of Oakwood, and Michelle (Michael) Bransford of Bismarck. His three grandchildren; Kimberly (Eric) Koven of Bolingbrook, Megan and Mary Bransford, and his great-grandson, Jack Henry Koven also survive Junior. His two step-grandchildren; John (Leslie) Miller, April (Shane) Gerstenberger, and his 6 step-grandchildren; Gavyn and Riley Miller, and Andrew, Matthew, Zach, and Kyle Gerstenberger also survive him. In addition to his parents, his infant son, Timmy, preceded Junior in death. The Eck family would like to take this opportunity and thank five of Juniors very special friends, Jerry, Ken, Bob, Jim, and Ted, and also a very special sister- and brother-in-law, Sue and Jerry Guthrie. Junior was proud of his military experience, serving in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. After the service, he continued working for the Government with the Danville Postal Service, and currently for KIK of Danville. He was a member of the Danville America Legion Post 210, the NARF, AARP, and the American Postal Union. He enjoyed his coin and stamp collection, golfing, and his garden. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of Junior Ecks life will begin at 2:00pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville with Entombment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Drew Metzer has been asked to officiate the service. Military rites will be honored, and conducted by the American Legion Post 210 at the Chapel Mausoleum following the service. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-8pm on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the Eck family would like donations to the American Diabetes Foundation, American Heart Association, and/or the 2nd Church of Christ in Danville.
