Springfield, IL- Julie A. Lashbrook, 85, formerly of Danville, passed away Saturday, September 15 in Springfield, IL. She was born March 1, 1927 in Springfield, IL to John P. Kane and Ruth Boyle Kane. Julie graduated from Danville High School in 1944. She attended St. Mary's of Notre Dame College at Notre Dame, IN, National College of Education at Evanston, IL and graduated Cum Laude from the University of Illinois in 1948 with a B.S. degree in Speech Therapy. At the U of I, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega social sorority and a member of the Zeta Phi Eta National Speech Society. Julie taught Speech Therapy in Kankakee, IL, Highwood, IL, Champaign, IL, Danville, IL, Lincoln, IL and Springfield, IL schools. She married Charles E. Lashbrook of Elgin, IL on September 17, 1949 at Holy Cross Church in Champaign, IL with Msgr. C.J. Higgins officiating the service. To this union were born Stephen Edward Lashbrook and John Charles Lashbrook, both of Springfield, IL. She is also survived by a brother, John P. Kane of Carmargo, IL. In June of 1977, Julie and her husband Charles moved from Middleton, OH back to Danville, IL where they purchased Ries Strauss Store for Men. They changed the name of the store to "Lashbrook's". They and their son John operated the store for approximately 20 years. Julie and Charles recently relocated to Springfield to be near their sons. Julie's interests were reading, restoring antiques and home decorating. Julie's loves were her husband, Charles, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces. She was very proud of their accomplishments. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Julie A. Lashbrook will be held at 4 PM on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. Father Greg Nelson will officiate. Burial of cremated remains will be at Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Danville Public Library or Ronald McDonald House of Central Illinois, 610 N. 7th St. Springfield, Illinois 62702.
