Julia Krusz 95, of Danville, passed away on March 18, 2018 at Hawthorne Inn of Danville. Julia was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts on September 17, 1924. She attended elementary and secondary schools in Poland, however, as her parents had traveled back to visit the family in Europe, just as the events leading to WWII prevented them from returning home to America. Still a young woman after the war, Julia came back to Holyoke to work for General Electric and soon earned her Bachelor and Master's degree in the study of Russian literature at the University of Massachusetts. There she graduated with honors and prestigious membership in the honor society of Phi Beta Kappa. As one highly proficient in three languages, a trilingualist, Julia taught Russian and Polish courses in the Slavic Department at the University of Massachusetts as a graduate assistant, after which she was invited to join the full faculty at Alliance College in Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania. Throughout her career in Slavic Studies she traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad to attend numerous academic conferences and programs. Julia loved classical music, opera, theater, and literature and relished the opportunities to travel throughout life. Close friends remember Julia most for her fine intellect, warmth, quiet manner, and sweetness of temperament, as well as her skills in cooking. Julia was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Danville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved brother Sylvester Krusz, and an aunt and two uncles in New England. Survivors include sister-in-law Mary Krusz and distant relatives in New England and Europe, as well as close family friends Barbara Wolfe and family, Dr. George Zundo and family, and Mari Martin and family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at noon at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Danville with Fr. Bo Schmitt officiating. Visitation will be held from 11-12PM prior to the Mass at the church. She will be laid to rest at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
