Judy Lieb

Judy Lieb, 85, passed away on September 28, 2026.

Born on July 17, 1941, Judy lived a life marked by faith, devotion to family, and a deep commitment to serving others. She met the love of her life, Richard Lieb, 64 years ago, and they were married on June 2, 1962, beginning a long and loving marriage that remained central to her life.

Judy was a devoted librarian for Thomasboro Grade School for 40 years. In that role, she became an inspiration to her students, mentoring them and helping instill in them a lasting passion for reading. Before her years at the school, she worked in the business office at Carle Hospital. Through both her work and her daily life, Judy was known as someone who was always willing to help others.

A devoted Christian and lifelong member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church of Thomasboro, Judy’s faith guided her throughout her life. She will be fondly remembered by many as an “angel in disguise,” always there to help others in their time of need. In retirement, her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved celebrating holidays and family get-togethers, and she treasured phone conversations with family and friends. She also enjoyed riding her stationary bike, praying the Rosary, and cheering on the Illini.

Judy is survived by her husband, Richard, daughter, Julie (Scott) Sutton, son, Rick (Lisa) Lieb, grandchildren Alison (Tanner) Saltsgauer, Tyler Sutton, Erin (Hayden) Hanson, Ashley (Brian) Mcdonald, Brandon (Elaine) Tyler, Ryan (Ann) Tyler, Meliah (Zach) McKenzie, great grandchildren, Olivia, Audrey, Jack, Adalyn, DW, Nate, Maysie, Sammy and sister, Agnes Maier.

Judy was preceded in death by her father, George Hammel; her mother, Bernice Hammel; her sister, Mary Mingee; her brother, George Hammel; and her grandson, Scotty Sutton.

She will be remembered with love for her kindness, her steadfast faith, her generous spirit, and the encouragement she gave to so many throughout her life. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her and loved her.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Judy's name to Thomasboro Grade School or St. Elizabeths Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held on Monday October 5th, from 10-12am at St. Elizebeth Catholic Church in Thomasboro with a funeral service to follow. Judy will be interred at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Thomasboro.
