Judy M Gamble, 85, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, at the age of 85 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Born on September 27, 1939, in Meade, Kansas, the daughter of John and Lena Jenkinson, Judy received her BA from Emporia State University, Kansas in 1961 and then moved to Illinois to pursue master’s degrees in music and languages at the University of Illinois. It was there that she met her husband, William Gamble.
Judy was a strong woman who lived a life characterized by faith, learning and creativity. After raising three children, she went back to the university to study accounting and worked as the assistant to the head of the dept. of agricultural economics at UI for many years. Judy was always a voracious reader and a talented baker, known for her potato cinnamon rolls. After retirement, she discovered her gift for quilting and blessed family and charities with many gorgeous pieces.
Judy’s community at First Presbyterian Church was important to her while she lived in Urbana. She enjoyed Sunday worship, work camp trips, Bible studies, Monday Munchers, and volunteering as a teacher in their ESL program.
She is survived by her son, Charlie Gamble of Urbana; daughter, Gail Blaauw, and her
husband, David, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and four grandchildren, Jazmine Gamble, Ian Byrne
Blaauw and his wife Felicia, Hannah Blaauw and Elise Blaauw.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, and her brother, Jack Jenkinson.
A memorial service will be held on Sep. 26 at 3 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Champaign. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be given in her name to First Presbyterian Church in Champaign, IL.
