Judy Checker

Judy Checker, a cherished and vibrant soul known for her dedication to faith, family, and the arts, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, in Urbana. Born on February 28, 1943, in New York, Judy lived a life rich with purpose and heartfelt connections that touched many.

A devoted member of the New Covenant Church in Champaign, Judy's spiritual journey was uniquely inclusive, actively embracing both her Jewish and Christian faiths. She found joy and inspiration through this diverse religious engagement, which played a central role throughout her life.

Judy had a profound love for painting, a passion she pursued with great enthusiasm. Her creative spirit was complemented by a zest for travel, with a special affection for France—a place that captured her imagination and provided endless inspiration. She was also a committed fundraiser, lending her talents and energy to causes close to her heart.

Perhaps most dear to Judy was her family and her friends. She treasured time spent in their company, creating countless memorable moments. Her love of nature was evident in the walks she took and the serene places she often returned to, particularly the Chicago Botanic Garden and Allerton Park—sanctuaries where she found peace and joy.

Judy is survived by her nieces Linda (Earl) Crown and Terry (Jim) Knobloch; her nephew Michael (Cori) Price; her great nieces and nephews Heather (Brian), Jennifer (Patrick), Lauren, and Nick; and her great-great nieces and nephews Maddie, J.P., Maggie, and Annistyn. Their lives were enriched by Judy's kindness, wisdom, and warmth.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Boris and Beatrice (Burstein) Checker; her sisters Arlene Price and Kathi Checker; and her brother-in-law Richard Price.

A Service will be held on Tuesday June 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Rosehill Cemetery's chapel located at 5800 N. Ravenswood Ave., Chicago, IL 60660 with a graveside service to follow. Friends and family are invited to honor Judy’s memory in this peaceful and reflective setting.
