Judith Ann Abernathy, 81, of Covington passed away at 5:16 PM on Monday, March 31, 2014 at her home. She was born on January 12, 1933 in Covington to John and Ethel Lonbom Ocheltree. She married her husband of 65 years, Dale Leon Abernathy, on May 21, 1949 in Veedersburg. He survives. Also surviving are seven children, Brenda (Bruce) Starkey of Terre Haute, Larry Dale (Nancy) Abernathy of Covington, Sue (Richard Pruitt) Tuggle of Covington, Elizabeth (Donald) Anderson of Wyoming, Kevin (Jill) Abernathy of Covington, Eric (Rebecca) Abernathy of Covington, and Kristina Cates of Covington; a brother, John David (Paula) Ocheltree; a sister, Sarah Lang; eighteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Joanne. Judy was a farm wife and enjoyed crocheting and writing in journals. She also liked her cats, especially her friend “Spanky”. Judy was a member at the First Church of Christ in Covington. She loved her church and reading her bible. Judy loved her family and was devoted to them, but especially enjoyed her time spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A service to celebrate the life of Judy Abernathy will be held at 1 PM EST on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Sunsets Covington Chapel, A Life Celebration Home in Covington, IN. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM EST on Friday, April 4, also at Sunsets Covington Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society or the First Church of Christ in Covington.
