Judith 'Judy' Makemson

Danville Judith A. Makemson, 83, of Danville walked through the Gates of Heaven into the arms of her loved ones at 1:08 pm on Thursday, May 11, 2023. She was born February 4, 1940 in Danville to Elmer and Audrey (Sanders) Sands. She married Robert Makemson on March 1, 1959 in Danville. They spent 57 happy years together until his passing.

She is survived by three children, Bill (Teresa) Makemson of Danville, Lora Reynolds of Danville, and David (Lisa) Makemson of Danville; 12 grandchildren Amber (Joe) Allsopp, Leanne (Rachel) Makemson, Vicki, Amanda, Elizabeth, Charlie Reynolds, Z. Amber Dawn, Brittany, Devin, David, Sophie Makemson, and Jessica (Brandon) Luke; 25 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and everyone who walked through her door and left calling her grandma; a sister, Norma Fox; and brother-in-law Bart Makemson.

In addition to her husband, Judy was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother Louise Sands and step-father Albert "Al" Cunningham; two grandsons, Jonathon and Benjamin Makemson, son-in-law Tom Reynolds; and five siblings.

Judy had a heart of gold and loved to take care of people. She had worked in laundry and the kitchen at Americana and volunteered her time at Gardenview Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of Crossroads Christian Church and enjoyed cooking, gardening, and baking. In her younger years, her and Bob enjoyed Euchre and she loved to go play bingo and bunco. She spent many of summer days cooking for all the "guys" helping bail hay for the family farm. She also loved music and could often be seen dancing. Spending time with family was most important to Judy. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spent many days playing marbles and Yahtzee with them. Sweet tea and lemonade were always on hand.

A service to celebrate the life of Judith A. Makemson will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834. Pastor Miles Clark will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Monday, May 15, 2023, also at Sunset in Danville. Memorials may be made in her name to Crossroads Christian Church.
