Juanita W. Stephens, 88, recently of Indianapolis, IN and formerly of Danville, IL passed away on March 1, 2009 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis, Indiana. Juanita was born January 9, 1921 in Danville daughter of Peter R. and Emilie M. (Lange) Rick. She married Raymond E. Stephens on November 4, 1945 in Danville. He preceded her in March of 1977. Survivors include son: Rick (Susan Acree) Stephens of Carmel, IN and their son Zachary Stephens; daughter: Judith (Richard) Ney of Wichita, KS and their children: Robin Desecki, Cara Desecki, Gideon Ney, Conner Ney, Helen Ney, and Mekonen Ney; brother: Melvin (Mary) Rick of Cherokee Village, AK. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Rosemary Mason, and granddaughter Rachel Ney. Juanita was a 39 graduate of Danville High School and had worked as a secretary for Immanuel Lutheran School since 1984 until retiring. She was a life member of the church and volunteered many hours at the school and church. She was a member of Lutheran Womens Missionary League and Vermilion County Association of Educational Personnel and enjoyed knitting, reading, and playing cards. A Celebration of Juanitas Life will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danville, IL with Pastors Dan Fienen & Tim Krupski officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Wednesday evening at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery in Danville. Memorials may be made in Juanitas name to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danville, IL and/or Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Westfield, IN.
