Juanita "Sammy" Grove

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Juanita "Sammy" Grove on March 20, 2026. Sammy was born on August 25, 1929, the second of seven children, to Seymour and Helen (Hulse) Lewis. She married Orville Grove on January 1, 1949. 

Survivors include daughter Carrie (Billy) Moon, grandchildren Haley Moon, Austin Moon and Billy Joe (Alex) Moon, seven great grandchildren, sisters Linda Richards and Patti McManus, brother Russell (Carolyn) Lewis and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Barbara Comstock and Sharon Cook, brother Donald Lewis, one grandchild, and one niece. 

Sammy retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Co., now AT&T, and was a member of the Pioneers, Hope Chapter #104 and Mahomet United Methodist Church. Sammy enjoyed many hobbies; knitting, crafting, restoring furniture, decorating, and traveling.

A Graveside service to honor Sammy will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Mahomet Chapel is honored to assist the family with funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mahomet United Methodist Church or St. Judes.
