JUANITA ELAM GALYEN Juanita Elam Galyen, 87, of Newton, Illinois, formerly of Danville, passed away at 9:38 a.m. Wednesday, September 1st, 2010 at St. Anthonys Hospital in Effingham, Illinois. Juanita was born on January 8, 1923 in Georgetown, Illinois, the daughter of Allen and Ethel Mae (Webb) Heaton. She married Walter G. Elam on June 6th, 1942 in Sikeston, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1975. She later married Paul L. Galyen in Georgetown, Illinois. He also preceded her in death on 1993. She is survived by a daughter- Barbara (Gene) Hayn of Newton; six grandchildren- Mark Mennenga, Paul Mennenga, Nathan Elam, Brian Elam, Adrian Elam and Curtis Elam; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one son- Donald Elam, two sisters- Lela Morris and Mildred Hamm, and three brothers- Johnny Heaton, Allen Heaton and Orville Heaton. Juanita worked at Ben Franklin in Danville and Latoz Hardware in Westville. She was a member of Community Church of God and was very involved in the church. Juanita also enjoyed helping at the Senior Center in Georgetown. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. A Celebration of the life of Juanita E. Galyen will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 8th, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, with Pastor Joel Ferren officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in Juanitas name to the Children of Haiti Fund.
