Joyce V. Reed, 91, of Champaign died at 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 25 at Bridal Brook Assisted Living and Memory Care in Mahomet.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 30 with a visitation one hour before the service at Unity Baptist Church, 404 S. Duncan Rd. in Champaign. The Rev. Steve Brady will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in Locust Grove Cemetery, Philo.
Joyce was born August 27, 1934 in Chicago, a daughter of Robert and Violet (Rommel) Golchert. She married Dennis Reed on October 13, 1967 in Philo. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Kent Kapelanski of Urbana and Brett Kapelanski of Murrieta, California and a daughter, Kimberly Britton of Urbana and seven grandchildren, Leah, Andrea (Tony), Reid, Reese and Von Britton and Thomas Kapelanski, Kris Kapelanski and four great granddaughters, Austyn and Madisyn Britton and Tenley and Lennox Testin and one great grandson, Crewe Testin.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Joyce retired after 10 years of service at the Illinois Natural History Survey.
She was a member of Unity Baptist Church.
Joyce enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, playing games on her iPad, word puzzles, crocheting and knitting. In her travels, she has been to all fifty states. She had also been to Mexico, Canada, Italy, Spain and various ports during several cruises.
The family thanks the Care Givers and staff at Bridal Brook for their compassionate care for Joyce for the last four years and four months and one week.
