Joyce M. Kerkstra

Joyce M. Kerkstra 89, of Mahomet IL. passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024, in Mahomet, IL. She was born on April 11, 1934, in Champaign IL. the daughter of William and Ruby (Dunn) Munnis.

She is survived by her sister, Judy Tippett, children, James Andrew (Susan) Jones, Thomas Scott Jones, Jayne S. (Vincent) Powell, Mark W. (Andra) Jones, Susan K. (Carolyn) Jones, nine stepchildren with Roy Kerkstra, grandchildren, Daniel, Jeremy, Molly, Emily Joyce, Joshua, Michael, Abe, Cole, Nick, Miranda, Krista, David, Travis, Christian, Emily Nicole, several step grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren (one more on the way), several step grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She went back to school in 1977 to earn her degree in nursing. After retirement she spent winters in Apache Junction AZ. with her husband, Roy. After Roys passing, she returned to Fisher, IL to be closer to her family.

Joyce was very creative, she was an artist, winning several local awards for her work, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, and arranging flowers. She was a 4H leader, farmer and sports fan. Joyce loved watching her children play sports and watching the Cardinals and Illini games.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy Kerkstra, sister, Darlene, brother, David and great grandson, Wyatt.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made in Joyces name to the Champaign County Humane Society or Mt. Vernon Methodist Church in Champaign County.

A memorial visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 1102 Churchill Rd. Mahomet IL. 61853 from 2-4pm on Saturday April 6, 2024 with a service to follow at 4pm.
