Joyce Ellen Noruk, 89, formerly of Tilton, Illinois, died at 2:55 a.m. on Tuesday March 31, 2009 in Dayton, Ohio. Joyce was born on October 6, 1919 in Newton, Kansas to Olin and Dorothy Nelms. Her early childhood was spent in Newton, Kansas and in Brookland, Arkansas before the family moved to Danville, Illinois. She graduated from Daniel Grade School and attended Danville High School. Joyce married Harold A. Noruk, also of Danville, Illinois, on Oct. 7, 1942 in Austin, Texas while Harold was in the service. They lived in California and Alabama while Harold was in the Army. After her husband Harold retired from the Army, they moved to Danville, Illinois to be close to both families. In 1962, they bought Coral Courts, a small resort, in Bull Shoals, Arkansas where they lived until Harolds death on April 14, 1984. In June of 1985, Joyce sold her home in Arkansas and moved back to Tilton, Illinois to be close to her two sisters. In September 2004 Joyce moved to Centerville, OH to be close to her niece Kathy Yanko and her family. She later moved to the assisted living facility, Summerville of South Dayton, where she passed away. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister, Verna (Jo) Pepping, five brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and one niece. She is survived by her sister, Elva Dunbar, of Eugene, OR and sister-in-law Pauline Stump of Mesa, AZ. She is also survived by niece Kathy (Jim) Yanko of Centerville, OH and nephews Gary (Betty) Pepping of Chariton, IA; Mark (Chanda) Pepping of Ooltewah, TN; Randy (Ellen) Dunbar of Springfield, OR; Harold (Carolyn) Pelszynski of Fort Walton Beach, FL; and Michael Stump of Mesa, AZ and their families. Joyce was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing and taking care of her yard and flowers. She was a gentle person who was kind to everyone she met. The family appreciates the loving care and support of the staffs of Summerville of South Dayton and of Southerncare Hospice of Dayton, OH. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association of Dayton, OH. A Celebration of the Life of Joyce Ellen Noruk will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Park, with Pastor Bill Carpenter officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 " 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
