Joyce A. Black

Danville Joyce A. Black, 81, of Danville passed away at 11:01 AM on Friday, June 30, 2023 at The Waters of Covington. She was born December 14, 1941 in Danville to Arthur William and Grace Alberta (Wilson) Bartlett. On February 18, 1966 she married her husband of 48 years, Harley "Blackie" Black. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2014.

She is survived by two children, Lori Black of Danville and Bradley J. (Stacey) Black of Danville; six grandchildren, Emily (Robbie Cooley) Brehm, Patrick (Taylor) Blackdale, Ella (Josh) Cranford, Emmet Black, Addison Allee, and Alaina Allee; great-granddaughter, Evie Jane Cranford; and a brother, Bill Bartlett.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Don Bartlett.

Joyce worked at Sears in one department or another until her retirement after 39 years of service. After Sears, she worked for several more years at DC Fitness in Danville. She was also a client at the gym and would work out almost daily to stay active. Being active was important to Joyce as shown through her involvement with the Danville Boat Club, Flying Shingles Ski Club, and very importantly, attending sporting events for her kids and grandkids. She also regularly attended Lincoln United Methodist Church and was a talented watercolor and oil painter. Joyce loved life and loved people and it showed in the ways she supported and cared for her family and friends.

A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Joyce Black will be held from 1-2 PM on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834. A brief time of sharing with her family will take place at 2 PM following the visitation. Cremation rites and burial will take place at a later date at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville.
