Josephine B. Lewis

Newport, Ind. - Josephine B. Lewis, 89, of Newport, passed away at 7:39 a.m. EDT Saturday, October 12, 2013 at her residence. She was born September 3, 1924 in Vermilion County, Illinois, the daughter of the late Ferd and Dora Roberts Hawkins. She married Charles E. "Sparky" Lewis on June 22, 1943 in Perrysville, Indiana. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2012. Survivors include one daughter, Lisa(Bret)Noggle of Georgetown, Illinois; two sons, Larry(Missy)Lewis of Newport, Indiana and Jerry "Crab" Lewis of Covington, Indiana; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Lewis, Jr. and granddaughter, Tricia Kerr. Josephine retired form the Vermillion County Clerk's Office in 1985. She was a 1942 graduate of Newport High School. Josephine was a member of the Newport American Legion Auxiliary Unit 184. She enjoyed cooking, baking, bowling, watching her grandchildren's sports and raising her family. Sutherlin; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the funeral home.
