Joseph Williamson, 83, of Vale, NC and formerly of Danville passed away on August 24, 2009 in Lincolnton, NC. Joseph was born March 16, 1926 in Paris, IL son of William and Josephine C. (Jones) Williamson. He married Lillian Shelton on November 20, 1945. She preceded him in November of 1992. He later married Lotus Johnson Mowery on November 19, 1998. She survives along with his children: Nancy (Allen) Addis of FL, Linda (Malcolm) Hinton of NC, Gail (Owen) Henderson of IN, Joseph (Sue) Williamson of NC, and Terry Williamson of VA; Lotuss children: Carolyn (Charles) Quarles, Eric (Vickie) Mowery, Tim (Dan Roth) Mowery, and Vanetta (Rick) Winslow all of IL, sister: Dorothy Holt of IL; 10 grandchildren and 6 step-grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson, 2 brothers, and 1 sister. Joseph was a graduate of Paris High School and later served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Joseph enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds. He was a member of the Olive Branch Masonic Lodge #38 in Danville for 40+ years before moving to North Carolina. A Celebration of Josephs Life will be held at 1:30 pm, Friday, August 28, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL with Pastor Drew Mentzer officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home with Masonic Rites at 7:30 pm. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville with Military Honors preformed by at the American Legion Post #210.
