GEORGETOWN- Joseph S. Dalida, 86, of Georgetown passed away at 9:50am on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at Provena USMC in Danville. Mr. Dalida was born in Georgetown on July 4, 1920, the son of John Joseph and Mary Saelakl Dalida, both deceased. Joe married Doris Tucker on June 14, 1947 in Danville. She survives along with their two children, Randy K. (Tammy) Dalida of Newcastle, IN, and JoAnn (Greg) Wilson of Catlin, IL. Joe is also survived by his five grandchildren; Michelle (John) Vice of Oceanside, NY, Melissa Harrier of Catlin, IL, Zachary Wilson of New York, NY, Hannah Dalida, and Sarah Dalida, both of Newcastle, IN, as well as twin girls due to arrive early in July. His brother John and his sister Ann Schlager precede Joe in death. Joe was a WWII US Army veteran and later served on the Chanute Air Force Base Fire Department in Rantoul, as well as a past trustee on the Georgetown Fire Department. Joe held the office of Georgetown Mayor and was a longtime member of the Georgetown School Board, as well as a member and president of the Georgetown Historical Society, and the Georgetown Planning Commission. Joe also served on the committee for the Georgetown Bicentennial and the Georgetown Sesquicentennial Celebrations. Through various committees and involvement with the Georgetown community, Joe was awarded the Studs Terkel Award in 2002, and the Mr. Georgetown award in 2003 by the Georgetown Historical Society. Joe had worked at the Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home with Mr. Raymon Houghton, doing various tasks when needed. He enjoyed woodworking, going to auctions, collecting antiques, attending the Georgetown High School football games, working in his yard and reminiscing with his family and friends, and talking about his Lithuanian Heritage. He cherished his time with his wife, children and grandchildren. A celebration of Joes life is scheduled for 11:00am on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home located at 200 E. West St. in Georgetown. Pastor James Blue will officiate the service. Final resting place will be at Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will be 3pm to 8pm on Friday, June 29, 2007 at the funeral home. The family wishes that memorials be made in Joes name to the Miss Piggy Fund sponsored by the Georgetown-Ridge Farm Education Association or the Georgetown Fire Department.
