Joseph Red Earl Leemon, 83, of Danville, passed away at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2005 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. Joseph was born on March 16, 1922 in Rankin, Illinois, the son of Earl G. and Eunice (Holquist) Leemon. He married Agnes T. Morrissey on November 16, 1946 at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Danville. She survives. He is survived by one son- Joe Leemon Jr. of Champaign; two daughters- Kathy (Darrell) Myers of Fairmount and Nancy (Bob) Grimes of Oakwood; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister- Lois Morrissey, and one brother- Bob Leemon. Joseph graduated from Rankin High School in 1940. After graduating he joined the U.S. Army in where he served as a Medic in WWII on the European African Middle Eastern Theatre. After Joseph left the military he worked at the V.A. Hospital as a nurses aid for 35 years until he retired in 1978. Joseph was a member of the Knights of Columbus #754. He was also a member of the Danville Boat Club. Joseph was a past-member of the Elks Lodge for 48 years. He was a member of American Legion Post #210. He was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church. Joseph was involved in the 81st Medics Company C annual reunion. He enjoyed going to auctions, sale barns, and buying and selling cattle. He also enjoyed collecting various antiques that he would find at auctions and sales.
