Danville - Joseph N. Rottmann, 99, of Danville, IL passed away at 3:15 AM on December 4, 2020 at Accolade Health Care in Danville, IL.
Joe was born on May 25, 1921 the son of John and Barbara (Schubert) Rottmann in Brooklyn, NY. He married Mary S. Amodeo on May 22, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY and she preceded him in death on November 2, 2001 in Sun City, AZ.
Survivors include his son, Joseph (Juanita) Rottmann of Danville, IL, two daughters, Barbara (Tom) Lowe of Cary, IL, and Bernadette (Steven) LaCorte of Cave Creek, AZ, four grandchildren, Joseph William (Jennifer) Rottmann of Covington, IN, Jill (Joel) Kellerman of Grafton, WI, Melissa LaCorte and Michelle LaCorte both of Cave Creek, AZ, six great grandchildren, Brooke, Haley, Kate and Eliza Rottmann of Covington, IN. Taylor Quinn and Samuel Joseph Kellerman of Grafton, Wisconsin.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary, two brothers, Rev. John Rottmann and Nicholas Rottman and one sister, Angeline Frey.
After graduating Bishop Laughlin Catholic High in 1939 Joe served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He served as a mechanic with a B-29 unit in the Pacific on Tinian. After getting married he worked for over 34 years for Long Island Light Company in Hicksville, NY. After retirement he and his wife moved to Maryland for a few years and then on to Arizona. While in Sun City he actively participated in their Softball League becoming its oldest member at one time . While in Danville these last three years, he joined the American Legion Post 210, the Vermilion County War Museum and attended St. Pauls Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending his free time with his family, reading and attending Silver Sneakers class at the Y. The family is grateful to the Danville VA for the services they provided him and the many friends he made in the Vermilion County area.
A Public Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Father Bowan Schmitt will officiate a Prayer Service at 3:30 PM on Monday, December 14, 2020 at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded, and inurnment will be in Danville National Cemetery at a later date.
It is kindly requested that those in attendance of the Prayer Service and or visitation wear a mask and practice social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Josephs memory to the YMCA, Vermilion War Museum or American Legion Post 210.
