Danville Dr. Joseph Karinattu, 80, of Danville passed away at 6:30 PM on January 9, 2019 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Dr. Karinattu was born on August 6, 1938 the son of Mathew and Ann (Njarackel) Karinattu in Erumeli, India. He married Raj Mundattuchundayil on August 19, 1963 in Venkurinji, Erumeli and she survives.
Survivors include his wife, Raj; one son, Jeff (Betcy) Karinattu of Chicago, IL; one daughter, Jennifer (Jim) Ward of Gurnee, IL; three grandchildren, Ava Karinattu of Chicago, IL and Caitlyn and Justin Ward of Gurnee, IL; other survivors include three brothers and three sisters as well as a special cousin, Rev. Thomas Njarackel of Kerala, India.
Dr. Karinattu was a very dedicated family practice physician at Tilton Medical Center, which he founded back in 1984. He was fond of saying that he took care of his patients from 'womb to tomb.' He was a volunteer physician at Well Baby Clinics for several years as well. He was Nursing Home Director at Vermilion Manor and Colonial Manor Nursing Homes.
Dr. Karinattu was a member St Pauls Catholic Church, was a Past President of the Vermilion County Medical Society and served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Vermilion County Medical Society from 1990 present. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, photography, listening to classical music and fishing.
Dr. Karinattu is preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dr. Joseph Karinattu will be held at 10:00 AM Monday January 14, 2019 at St. Pauls Catholic Church, 1303 N. Walnut Street, Danville, IL. Father Greg Nelson will officiate. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 3:00 6:00 PM on Sunday, January 13, 2019 with a 2:30 PM Rosary Service prior at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL.
The family requests memorials be made to the Schlarman Foundation, OSF Foundation, Danville Symphony Orchestra Foundation or the DACC Foundation.
