Danville- Joseph S. Joe Huffman, 89, of Danville passed away at 7:53 PM on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the Hawthorne Inn of Danville. He was born on June 4, 1922 in Bismarck to James E. and Margaret Haubaugh Huffman. He married Mary E. Allen who preceded him in death on December 2, 1976. He later married Vera M. Tarpley on July 16, 1978 at First Baptist Church in Danville by Pastor Stuermer. She preceded him in death on February 18, 2009. Surviving are 6 children: Joseph (Janice) Huffman of Kansas City, MO, Diana (Frank) Paddock of Kingman, IN, Debra J. Smith of Urbana, IL, Elizabeth (Rick) Sadowski of Georgetown, IL, Timothy (Cathy) Huffman of Bedford, IN, and James Edward Huffman of Tifton, GA; 2 sisters: Violet (Robert) Hoskins and Margaret Warren, both of NC; 15 grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Becky Elharti. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents and 7 brothers and sisters. Joe served his country in the Army Air Corp where he was a P51 Pilot during WWII. He was the Millright Foreman at the University of Illinois for 20 years, retiring in 1984. Joe was an avid Fighting Illini and Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed fishing and traveling. He was also a long-time member at First Baptist Church in Danville where he was a deacon and a trustee. A service to celebrate the life of Joe Huffman will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Danville. Pastor Gary Burns will officiate. Burial will follow at Gundy Cemetery in Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8PM on Friday, July 8 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville.
