Covington, Ind. -- Joseph H. Howard, 84, of rural Covington, passed away at 8:30 p.m. EST Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at St.Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born May 24, 1925 in Covington, Indiana, the son of the late Dewey and Ruth Shaw Howard. He married Jean Hines on June 19, 1943 in Perrysville, Indiana. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Theresa(Jay)Frederickson of Newport, Oregon and Trudy Howard of Covington, Indiana; two sons, Joe(Louvene)Howard, Jr. of Hoffman, North Carolina and Gary(Carol)Howard of Kingman, Indiana; four granddaughters and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ellen Crouse. Joseph was a carpenter. He was a 1943 graduate of Perrysville High School. Joseph was a veteran of W.W. II serving with the United States Coast Guard. His current memberships included the Second Church of Christ and the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers Local 269 both in Danville, Illinois and the Perrysville American Legion Post #350. He was a past member of the West Liberty Church of Christ south of Covington. Joseph enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time with his family. Funeral services: 2 p.m. EST Monday, December 7, 2009 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Drew Mentzer; Burial: Danville National Cemetery in Danville, Illinois with military rites by the Perrysville American Legion Post #350; Visitation: 3 to 6 p.m. EST Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the funeral home and one hour prior to services Monday. Family request contributions to: Mrs. Marvel Dunham, 419 Delwood Drive, Covington, Indiana 47932 to help her and her family with medical expenses.
