Joseph Day

Rantoul - Joseph Clifford Day, 68, of Rantoul, formerly of Champaign-Urbana, passed away at 12:55 AM on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on June 5, 1947 in Mercy Hospital in Champaign, IL to Clifford and Agnes (Hausman) Day. He is survived by two brothers, John M. Day of San Diego, CA and Dan (Karen) Day of Waconda, IL; an aunt, Nancy Hausman of Tuscola; and cousins from the Day, Kappes, Hausman, Ducey, and Feeney families. He was preceded in death by his parents. Joe was baptized June 20, in 1947 at St. Joseph Church in Pesotum, IL, and given his Godparents, John Hausman Mary Ann Hausman-Feeney. He graduated High School from James Madison High School in San Diego, CA in June of 1966. Joe then served his country in the Air Force during Vietnam. He was a career military man, retiring at the rank of E6 in 1989. He earned several Associate of Science Degrees while enlisted, as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Education. Joe loved to play baseball, and continued to do so as long as his health permitted. A graveside service for Joe Day will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pesotum, IL. Deacon Don Koberline will officiate. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Sunset's Champaign Chapel, A Life Celebration Home in Champaign, IL. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society.
