DANVILLE: Joseph Carl “Joe” Hageman, 89, of Sidell passed away Friday, July 4, 2014 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Born May 2, 1925 in Danville, he was the son of Carl “Charlie” and Jennie (Bahls) Hageman. He married Dolores Louise Messman on March 23, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Broadlands, Illinois. Joe served his country with honor in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Following his time in the military he was a machinist for Modern Machine Shop and Allith-Prouty Manufacturing in Danville. He spent most of his life farming in the Fairmount area. Joe was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Broadlands. He was on the School Board for both Fairmount Elementary School and Jamaica Consolidated Schools, and was a past Director of the Farmers Elevator Co-Op in Jamaica. Joe enjoyed many vacations across the United States and Europe with his family. He never met a stranger and enjoyed talking with people. Joe is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dolores; one son, Jay (Tracy) Hageman of Fairmount; three daughters, Connie (Doug) Chew of Sidell, Karen (Barry) Maddox of Sidell, and Linda (Brent) Wininger of Sidney, IL/ Crawfordsville, IN; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Maxine Burgett Van Meter. A celebration of Joes life and faith will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 15th at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 390 County Road 2400E, Broadlands, Illinois 61816. A memorial has been established for Immanuel Lutheran Church or the donors choice. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville.
