Jonathan Scott Werner, 63, of Mahomet passed away quietly after a courageous battle with melanoma. Scott was born to Gene and Joanne Werner on April 14, 1959, in Redbud, IL. He grew up in Marissa, IL where his passion for golf began.

He graduated from Belleville Area College with an Associates of Applied Science degree in horticulture. Scott began his golf career as the golf superintendent in Alton at Muny Golf Course and Rock Springs Park. In 1990, Scott was hired at Lincolnshire Fields Country Club where he worked for the next 33 years. He was a member of the Gold Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSA), the Mississippi Valley GCSA and the Midwest Association of Golf Course Superintendents. Scott served on the board of directors of the Central Illinois GSCA for many years and was a two-time association president. Scott was a friend and mentor to many in the golf industry. He generously shared his knowledge of turf management at multiple conferences and worked closely with the University of Illinois turf program. Scott attended 24 consecutive Masters Tournaments. He was also an accomplished golfer and was a five-time Central Illinois Chapter champion.

Scott is survived by his wife, Dianna, one son, Aaron of Champaign, a stepson, Joel (Kristin) McClughen of Sherman, a stepdaughter, Janie (Cody) Harshbarger of Mansfield, and one sister, Jennifer (Wayne) Politsch of Alton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Sunset Mahomet Chapel 1102 Churchill Rd., Mahomet, IL 61853.
